There is nothing illegal about the software. WPeMatico reads RSS feeds, which are published to be read. What matters is what you do with the content: it belongs to its owners, and using it is subject to the terms and conditions of each feed and of the site that publishes it.

Before you use its content.

• Many companies say in their policies that their content is protected by copyright. Some include their feeds, and others don’t.
• Many news sites and blogs offer free content, or say nothing about it in their policies.
• Some companies sell news through feeds. You can buy a license from them and publish their news automatically with WPeMatico.

If a site says its content is protected, look for other sources. There are many sites with content you can use.

To avoid problems.

• Ask for permission. Many owners accept that you share their content, as it gives them visibility.
• Credit the source. Add a link to the original article and the name of the author at the end of each post. See How can I include the original source and the author’s name in every post?
• Make the content yours. Changing the image or part of the text is often allowed and well received.
• Say it in your policies. Explain on your site that it publishes content taken from other websites, so the owners know they can contact you.

Remove the posts as soon as possible, and remove that feed from your campaigns. In practice, this happens rarely, and removing the content solves it. If you have doubts about a company, contact them and ask whether you can use their content.
